Efficiency

Efficiency is the power that is true to all things
The bike
The trail
The rider
The race
It is the path in tiredness
that leads to recovery and has speed in it
Fury hurls on the pedal like a bad rock song
Efficiency lifts the pedal like a whisper

The Art of being unaware what you are capable of

I love climbing.
For about 15 years of mountain biking, that has been enough.
In and of itself.
The Zen of the climb.

A year ago, I met some people who would become tremendous friends.
Something in meeting them,
Something in where I was at then
Made me want to race.

First race ever,
The Winter Park Hill Climb
I learned that there are a lot
of very, very good climbers.
I finished 9th.
I was honored to be 9th.

There was a time,
Actually it was about one half hour,
Of one ride
I wondered if the Race would push aside the Zen.
I set the record straight on that question.
If I do it right,
I’ll never wonder about that again

I kept racing
I found my weaknesses
and improved them
I found my strengths
and improved them

The season ended.
Winter came.
A long,
Snowy,
Cold,
Winter,

Spring came
and a chance to compete.
It was a road bike
not much climbing
but I got to tune the motor

Then the Winter Park Hill Climb returned.
The Race was there,
It never did push aside the Zen.
And so I was able to shake the hands
of very, very good climbers
as I climbed to the top spot of the podium
The first time I have won a competitive event in my life
ever

During the week,
after that race
I got to chase a friend,
An excellent rider,
up one of my favorite climbs
Mt Falcon.
We beat my old record on that climb
by three minutes

Then Winter Park Race 2 came.
I finished 9th
I’m still honored to be 9th
