10月15日 Plesko’s raceThe legendary Chris Plesko is at the 24 hrs at Moab, a few thoughts before I head up for a short ride at Mt Falcon: Quote from the 24hrs @ Moab website: The essence of experience is the mystery of the ride.
Quote from Plesko’s website: Life is short, get out and do anything with it. Be creative, push your limits and take risks….
It is currently 10am Sunday. The race is in its 22nd hour. Not much to go. Plesko is hopefully still racing, doing well. Maybe on his Trek Fuel #1, or perhaps on the Fuel #2 loaned to him by Scott. It looks like the weather may have made the challenge even greater. I won’t pretend to speak from a condition of understanding of his epic, but I know its somewhat other-worldly. Right now he is a bit like an astronaut, in radio silence, with a thin thread of self-reliance, a great support team, a crucial task to complete before he will return home, to work, to gravity, to all the normal day to day specifics, distinct from the environment he is in now. There are some things, that for whatever reason, some people will never ever get. And I am not just talking mountain biking here. And that includes me in some instances. Then there are those who don’t get all of something, but part of it resonates with them. For instance, I don’t fully get the endurance thing, but I have a hell of a lot of respect for it. There is a truth in it, that's inescapable, undeniable. Welcome back to earth Plesko, you are a hero to some of us here. And much respect to the team that went out there to support him. 100 miles at Leadville drifts into a distant focus10月4日 October 4, 2006I had a great ride yesterday at White Ranch. Not particularly fast, but it had a good feel to it. The fall colors are amazing, I did get some pictures, though they were nothing compared to the feeling of really being up there. Nothing like bright yellow, orange, and red leaves falling on dark moist cool earth. It is interesting the different sort of riders that show up when the temps start getting colder, there is less daylight. Plus just the fact that is less crowded in general. |
